Heartwood: Connected Families

For families and children

Warm. Connected. Outdoors. Heartwood gives families space to slow down, create, explore, and reconnect through nature, expressive art, music, and intentional experiences designed to bring children and parents together.

Self-Led Learning: Parent Intensive

For parents and caregivers

For the parent ready to understand how their own experiences with learning shape the way they show up with their child. Reconnect with yourself. Build trust in your instincts. Create more space for connection.

Heartwood: Connected Families

We created this program for our family and yours. Heartwood is a 2-night, 3-day family retreat centered on creative expression, nature, play, and connection. Thoughtfully designed art, music, movement, and nature-based experiences invite children and parents to explore feelings, curiosity, and self-expression together.

There is intentional time for open-ended exploration and play, giving families room to follow curiosity, slow down, and connect with one another and the world around them. Each setting becomes part of the experience, whether we're exploring wooded trails, gardens, open land, or gathering around a fire.

The goal is to return home feeling more connected, more grounded, and more confident in the way you learn together.

What This Is
An immersive creative arts retreat held outdoors, where children and caregivers explore expression, connection, and curiosity side by side.

What to Expect
Time in nature. Art-making. Songs around a fire. Gently-led experiences that help children and parents feel — and feel seen by — one another.

Who It's For
Families with children of all ages who are ready to slow down, gather, and reconnect on the road less taken.

Self-Led Learning ™

Sharon developed the Self-Led Learning™ framework and retreats around a question that can take courage to ask:

Who is showing up when I sit down to learn with my child?

Sometimes it's the part of you that wants everything to go a certain way. The part that worries you're not doing enough. The part that remembers what school felt like and wants something different for your child. The part that gets overwhelmed when learning doesn't look the way you imagined it would.

These parts are shaped by our experiences. They developed for a reason, and they often try to protect something important.

You can have both: connection with your child and connection with yourself.

Self-Led Learning™ draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), an evidence-based framework developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, to help parents become more aware of these different parts of themselves and reconnect with a steadier, more curious, compassionate sense of Self.

When a parent can meet a difficult moment with greater calm, curiosity, and compassion, the relationship changes too. Self-led learning is not a curriculum or a method. It is a quality of presence that can be practiced, returned to, and deepened.

This retreat creates space for that practice.

What This Is
A reflective, restorative retreat for homeschool parents to reconnect with their own inner landscape and find inspiration for the path they're building.

What to Expect
Guided reflection, expressive arts, and honest conversation — space to have compassion for yourself and return home with clarity and renewed sense of purpose.

Who It's For
For parents and caregivers on alternative education paths who are ready to do the inner work that makes them the learning guides their child or children need.
