Learning Circles was founded to empower young people to be confident, self-directed learners of life. The synthesis of our professional expertise, in the fields of education and mental health therapy, and value systems helped create the blueprint for Learning Circles.
Like many free-learning families, Andrew and Sharon recognize the vastness and complexity of the world and wish to cultivate open, empathetic, self-aware, and authentic experiences for their children. We want them to become aware of their own feelings and the feelings of others, fostering deeper connections and emotional well-being. The outdoors plays a crucial role in our family value system and we feel its' regulating rhythms and rich sensory experiences are a fitting piece to Heartwood's mission.
Andrew and Sharon currently live in rural Maine with their four children and love opportunities to see the world and contribute to our community.
Sharon's role as a mother to young children combined with experience as a psychotherapist led her to create a program that could contribute to one's foundation for self-worth. A firm believer in emotional wellness as an essential piece of any education experience, Sharon hopes to offer connection resources for families to incorporate into their everyday lives. Her background in art therapy has celebrated the creative process for kids, teens and adults in a variety of settings. Sharon is passionate about supporting people in their unique paths to attune to their emotional worlds.
A champion for creative learning, Andrew is a father who balances his passions for music, invention, and education. Combining his professional background in music, inclusive education, and school leadership, Andrew brings learning expertise and creativity to the project. Andrew's background, as a teaching artist, adaptive educator, and agile learning facilitator allow him to create meaningful learning spaces and design memorable experiences. When not singing or playing a tune, Andrew enjoys exploring the wonders of the outdoors with his family.
